In this presentation, JGS Toronto board member Steven Brock offers a brief history of Jewish Immigration to Canada, from the earliest days of New France up until 1980, followed by a rundown of the ships that brought our ancestors, focusing on how they reached the new world and the promise of a better life in Canada. Focusing on the history of trans-Atlantic travel, he will speak about the ocean liners on which our forefathers travelled. Finally, he will show, in detail, a practical, real-world example of how to research our ancestors’ arrival in Canada.
Steven Brock has been researching his roots for almost 30 years and has traced his ancestors back to the late 1700s. He was a member of the executive of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Hamilton and now serves on the board of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Toronto. He has also been involved in several projects, including JRI-Poland, the Canadian Naturalization Database Indexing, and the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry.
In person at Shaarei Shomayim Congregation, 470 Glencairn Avenue, North York and on Zoom.
