DESCRIPTION:Keynote Speaker: Steve Brock \n8 September 2024\, 10:30 a.m \n  \n  THE SECOND ANNUAL JGS TORONTO RECOGNITION AWARDS\nVia Zoom and in person at Shaarei Shomayim Congregation\, Toronto \n Keynote Speaker: Steven Brock \nTHE 1918 SPANISH FLU AND ITS IMPACT ON THE CITY OF TORONTO:  RESEARCHING YOUR JEWISH ANCESTORS  \nWHO PERISHED  \nDURING THE PANDEMIC \nBetween 1918 through 1920\, the Spanish Flu had a devastating impact on the City of Toronto.  Learn how researching your Jewish ancestors may include family members who perished during the pandemic.  What does the research say about tis horrific time period?  How can this tragic time add stories that  shaped your family’s path? \nStephen Brock has traced his roots in Russia and Poland to the late 1700s.  He has been a member of Montreal’s and Hamilton’s genealogical societies and now a JGS Toronto member\, serving on the Board.  Steven has also been involved in various projects and an avid researcher and genealogist. \nThe Recognition Awards will be presented after the keynote speech.  Please join us as we honour the valuable contributions of our volunteers and pay tribute to Rolf Lederer z”ll and reflect on his 40 years of outstanding commitment to Jewish genealogy. \nLight refreshments will be served following the event. \nPlease attend in person at Shaarei Shomayim Congregation\, 470 Glencairn Avenue\, Toronto (lower social hall\, enter through the north doors at 10:00 a.m.)\, or join us via Zoom. \n\nDoors open at 10:00 a.m. \n\nClick http://jgstoronto.ca/register -for in person or Zoom
